Who we are

  • AHAWE is a registered Non-Profit Company founded by Michelle Wolmarans.
  • Our management consists of experienced and qualified professionals,  and authorized Animal Welfare and Protection Officers/ Inspectors.
  • We only work with accredited training providers and offer training at accredited training facilities.
  • Training offered by AHAWE is in line with registered SAQA Unit Standards and presented by an EDTP qualified Facilitators and Assessors.
  • AHAWE is the only animal welfare organisation that is pursuing a formal and recognised qualification for Animal Welfare Officers/Inspectors in South Africa to standardise the sector and give credibility and recognition to individuals and organisations.
  • AHAWE is an allied member of CEEPSA (Council for Equine and Equestrian Professionals of South Africa).
  • AHAWE collaborates with SAVC (South African Veterinary Council) registered PAHC (Primary Animal Health Care) practitioners who regularly  facilitate community outreach and sterilization campaigns where AHAWE invests in community, public and youth animal welfare education.

Animal Protection Training

Training provided by AHAWE is based on a proposed qualification that was developed in accordance with the Regulation 24(c) of the National Standards Bodies Regulations of 28 March 1998. the Task Team for ANIMAL PROTECTION STANDARDS, registered by Organizing field 01 – Agriculture and Nature Conservation which was published in the Government Gazette 30 January 2009 (No.31820) for public comment.

Part A

Theory:

Training consists of 5 full, consecutive days of classroom work, followed by written examination on the 6th day.

Part B

Apprenticeship:

Upon successful completion of the exam, candidates are required to prove their field competency under supervision

FAQ's

How does AWO training work?

Candidates must complete the AHAWE application documents and submit these with certified copies of their ID, National Certificate, recommendation letter of the organisation they are involved with, SAPS Clearance certificate, Proof of Address and a clear, high resolution head and shoulder photograph.

This is followed by an interview during which an assessment is done.

Payment is due on enrolment. 

On acceptance candidates can attend a 5 day contact session (40 hrs). 

Distance learning modules under development, coming soon.

After passing the written examination candidates are required to complete the AHAWE supervised apprenticeship program.

What are AHAWE training fees?

Training fees are R7850.00 which includes catering and the examination fee. Discretionary discounts by arrangement. Terms and conditions apply.

Where does AHAWE training take place?

AHAWE training takes place at ENJO Consultants in Centurion.
